Description
The Penitentiary was inaugurated in 1986 to celebrate the 16th centenary of the conversion of St. Augustine.
It is open during periods of greatest affluence, but it is also possible to visit during closing hours upon request. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated inside and there are always priest confessors who speak languages other than Italian.
The penitentiary is structured in the form of a catechesis and conversion path with the aid of art works and audiovisual projections. Armando Marrocco, an artist from Puglia, accomplished the various works of art and devised the tones of the colours of the different rooms. This Penitentiary is considered to be a jewel and has been designated, by theological and pastoral experts, a successful model to renew the sacrament of reconciliation.
